Design Concept: Program TR-486PH

Give an insight of your design concept:

The approach to my design is primarily based on popular culture through cinematic and visual art references.  The concept of the machine combined with the characteristics of a woman generates a stronger and more meaningful appeal. ‘A woman’s touch’ is undoubtedly a statement that corresponds to the ideas and representation of the female automaton. Whether it is the audiences’ admiration of her extraordinary intellect or fear of her female supremacy, this power of femininity existing through the mechanical medium proves that the technological woman is one that cannot be ignored.

Design Concept: Visions of Beauty

Give an insight of your design concept: Her enchanted vision: “Under moonlight skies, the woman dances amongst enchanted creatures, mesmerized by their extravagance, her eyes sparkle at the sight of beads, crystals & jewels.She knows she will see nothing more beautiful than that creature which she discovered in her dreams…” The concept ‘Visions of Beauty’, describes a journey through the thoughts and dreams of a woman. In her imagination she describes a surreal world where enchanted creatures roam and glimpses of a 1920’s extravagance is unearthed. The touch of an exotic and ethnic influence also resonates through the dreamlike imagery, revealing an inner sense of sensuality and confidence within the female mantra.

Emily Jackson (from Australia)

Design concept: ‘In Bloomsbury’

Give an insight of your design concept:

My concept focuses on the Bloomsbury Group, a collection of creative individuals who lived and worked in an intensely imaginative and inspiring world of their own. In particular the women in this group were key creative forces, creating a world of inspiration and fascination not just for the admiration of others, but  simply for their own pleasure. ‘Charleston Farmhouse’, the central hub of the group, where no wall, door, or piece of furniture has escaped the distinctive painting style of the Bloomsbury group also influenced my designs greatly.
I wanted to take this notion of making everything and anything ‘ones own’ and translated that into my designs. My concept combines the independent, imaginative woman, holding her own unique place in the world, with the almost fragile creative spirit and aesthetic touch of a woman who is quick to see and feels beauty in all things.

Astrid Andersen (from Denmark)

Representing:  TEKO

Design Concept: Oneness

Give an insight of your design concept:

My concept is about reaching a higher level of harmony with one self. It is about a woman that has achieved an “oneness” with herself - which detaches her from the rest of the world. It makes her super human and above the earth yet alone and sterile. My main inspiration is the Japanese artist Mariko Mori, who portraits herself as this higher power.

Design Concept: Beijing Beauty

Give an insight of your design concept:

My female fascination outfit is based on the new architecture in Beijing caused to the upcoming Olympics. Three buildings, the CCTV Head quarters, Beijing National Aquatics Centre and Beijing National Stadium interest me in particular. As none of these buildings are yet completed I have been fascinated by the whole building process of the shapes and spaces slowly merging together creating beautiful contrasts. Therefore, I have been aiming to achieve an aesthetic, spirited and different look with multiple options of experience for the viewer.

The inspiration to this concept is coming from the Japanese artist Mariko Mori´s universe.
The juxtaposition of Eastern mythology with Western culture is a common theme in Mori's works.
Later works often show her as a goddess in a universes of technology.

Theresa Bachler (from Austria)

Representing: ESMOD International, Munich

Design Concept: Once upon a time...

Give an insight of your design concept:

For my showpiece I was inspired by the glamour of the thirties, so I used a lot of high-quality fabric such as silk and laces. My main inspiration came from the "little black dress" which the “Vogue” magazine in 1935 commented with "nothing in fashion is as new". This very opinion gave me the incentive to make something new in our time. I created a very light and transparent look with many different types of lace. At first glance, my showpiece is very clean and simple, but when you look closer, details such as the little button tab in the centre front of the panty and the ruffles on the back become visible. My goal by creating this lingerie piece was to fascinate women of any age.

Design Concept: Female Fascination – The magic of Beijing

Give an insight of your design concept:

My concept was to show the beauty and femininity of a woman by letting her appear as a shining, colourful flame. Due to the magic of the colours she will be sparkling and simply outstanding. The shining colors which, can also be found in the traditional Chinese garments and gowns, the historical dragons, lampions, and umbrellas, express energy, vitality, self-confidence and a joyful life. The viewer will be fascinated by that magical appearance and immediately be attracted and delighted. That is my philosophy of ‘Female Fascination".

Robert Pointner (from Germany)

Representing: ESMOD International, Munich

Design Concept: free* - * to be unusual

Give an insight of your design concept:

When I created my showpiece, I thought of a sophisticated, modern woman who knows exactly what she wants and is not afraid to reach her goals. Moreover, she is sexy and passionate, and loves life. Apart from the floral pattern, my main inspiration came from the colour ‘yellow’, which stands for freshness, vitality and power in Europe, but on the other hand also for jealousy and hatred -  which is in my point of view a great combination for lingerie design. In addition, yellow is the symbol of the Emperor of China (only the Emperor was allowed to wear yellow clothes) and of the country itself, which again leads back to Beijing and the ‘Triumph Inspiration Award ´08’.

Valerie von Kittlitz (from Germany)

Representing: Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design

Design Concept: Velocity

Give an insight of your design concept:

The research and concept of VELOCITY was based on the clashes inherent in the lives of young working women in the city. Every woman today needs to balance her longings and desires with the possibilities offered by modern life. She combines power and fragilty within herself and this results in a strength which is subtle and flexible. Chosing materials which reflect this, the look of the bra and briefs is very much based on sheerness in contrast to bold black lines. At points, the latter end abrubtly and continue in nearly invisible straps, at others they twist and intertwine. Soft materials such as chiffon and jersey contrast pvc and black or sheer synthetic straps. The allover look is graphic and clear, whereas the feel of bra and brief was supposed to be soft, nearly fragile. In addition to the underwear, I created a bodysuit which reflects the same concept of complexity in character, and complements the outfit. The term VELOCITY refers in parts to where a lot of inspiration came from (cycling through London, thus french/english: „vélo-city“), but above all to the speed which influences so much of our lives as women and demands dynamics and strength.

Rachel Hewitt (from Great Britain)

Representing: Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design

Design Concept: Botticelli

Give an insight of your design concept:

The juxtaposition between structural crinolines and soft feminine undergarments stood out after extensive research into lingerie’s history. I wanted to combine the sculptural components of the crinoline with the softness and femininity I found in historical undergarments.  Couture techniques inspired both the design and the construction of the lingerie. Hand sewing is used extensively. The modernity of certain historical pieces discovered during research raised a few questions for me. What is the relevance of historical undergarments to modern day underwear? Is it possible to reinterpret the past to create contemporary and fresh ideas for lingerie? The aim was to create a piece that is sculptural but also feminine and delicate. I think the result is striking, contemporary and unashamedly pretty.

Mattia Frassinella (from Italy)

Representing: Istituto Europeo di Design (IED), Milan

Design Concept: Energ-Ethic Bra

Give an insight of your design concept:

The idea comes from the desire to scan the multiples opportunities that new technologies offer to fashion design.
An abiding love for material experimentation took me to see in the flexi mirror a perfect support to vehicle and outbreak the wish of portable technologies that we respire in our age.
The cold mirrored surface increases and glorifies natural and innate woman's femaleness.
A new perspective, not caged in fleeting ephemeron aesthetic sphere but a project that caress a rising lifestyle aligned to the idea of harmonic coexistence of nature and technologies.

My concept involves the following elements and their characteristics:
Femininity: delicate, white, transparency - she is part of the show.
The clock marks the passing of time with its mechanisms - every emotion, every joy, every pain - the change of the body;
The contortionist with her perfect, elastic and smooth body - the result of hard training - the construction of the body;
The girl who is magical finds the woman in herself and feels the need to be female in order to experience self-confidence or to maintain a role within the society - the innocence;
The flower which is the symbol of femininity;
The woman who wants to show the world her naturalness, her eventual excesses and her mask.

Dorota Odój (from Poland)

Representing: Wyższa Szkoła Sztuki i Projektowania w Łodzi

Design Concept: suggestion

Give an insight of your design concept:

My inspiration of creating the underwear were the twenties and thirties of the previous century. My intention was to bring the atmosphere and soul of those times, and at the same time I wanted to create new quality in underwear. The choice of my inspiration was not accidental. The period of those years in fashion was a symbol of womanhood in old style but rediscovered, defined in new forms with the help of new means. The underwear has an evening character. Soft violet colours combined with golden beige bring the atmosphere of the twenties, but the innovative introduction of tassels on a bra and in panties give them an original character, intensified by the use of woven fabrics and elements, not typical for underwear industry.

Design Concept: BLACK WOMAN

Give an insight of your design concept:

The lingerie I have designed is perfectly wearable and includes loads of simplicity. Instead of extravagancy, I have chosen classic shape which I show from my point of view. Following that path, I decided that it should have evening design, which is shown by the mix of black and silver colour.
In my opinion, the lingerie I have designed is really female, delicate and shows the shape of women's body. The design was created for elegant and comfortable women.

Afton Chen Sihan (from Singapore)

Representing: Raffles Design Institute

Design Concept: G.I. Jane

Give an insight of your design concept:

My design is based on a femme fatale – G.I. Jane – as portrayed by Demi Moore in the 1997 film with the same name. In the film, G.I. Jane is not only faced with psychical challenges but hounded by issues of sexism as well. It shows how a woman can rise against the odds and shine. I infused the same spirit into my own designs, as well as taking this concept further by showing you the softer side of a strong woman.

My design is more to avant-garde. I wanted to portray a sexy yet innocent look of a flower angel. This is done with the used of silk chiffon to make the semi transparent layering skirt effect; linen to make the 3D flower petals on both bra cup.

In my design, her gothic temperament is maintained, in which black is used as the main tone. Only the framework is maintained in the corselet made of fishbone in black ribbons, which is light and sexy. Complemented by embroidered bra and T-back, her graceful and enchanting temperament as the gothic queen is fully exhibited. The overall design is enriched by draggling headwear and black stocking suspender and the noble demeanor as the gothic queen further emphasized.
